The Nigeria Internet Association, NiRA held its 11th Annual General Meeting at its Office complex at Iponrin, Lagos, on April 30, 2019. The intent of the AGM was to consider the Annual Reports and Audited Financial Statements for the year ended December 31, 2018, to approve the business plan and budget for 2019 financial year, elect Directors to fill the vacant seats on the Executive Board, as well as, attend to any other business that may be brought up from members.
The GM was chaired by the President of NiRA, Revd. Sunday Folayan, who was performing his last duty as the President, as his term ends, immediately the new President was elected and sworn in at the AGM.
The results of the election into the vacant seats on the Executive board of Directors, showed that Mr. Muhammed Rudman, was elected unopposed as the new President of NiRA. He was, until his election, the Vice President of the Association and also, doubles as the Chief Executive Officer of the Internet Exchange Point of Nigeria.
Mr. Toba Obaniyi was elected, as the new Vice President, while Mr. Sola Akinsanya and Mr. Lawrence Olawale-Roberts were elected to fill the other two vacant positions on the Executive Board of NiRA.
Mr. Rudman, while accepting his election as the new President of NiRA, stressed that, his goal is to make NiRA to become the leading registry in Africa, by making .NG the preferred domain to Nigerians, which, he explained can only be achieved, through the unity of purpose of the members.
He also presented the objectives he intends to achieve with the other members on the Board, during his tenure as President as follows:
- 100% increase in new domain registrations annually, for the next four years
- Increase the number of Registrars by 30%
- Excel in the provision of NiRA’s core services, by ensuring 99.9% uptime
Other members of the Executive Board of Director include Mr. Chukwuemeka Fred Agbata, Jnr, Mrs. Nkem Nweke, Dr. Eugene Ohu, Mr. Murtala Abdullahi, Mr. Biyi Oladipo, the Financial Secretary and Engr. Ikechukwu Nnamani, the Treasurer.
Glowing tributes were paid to the retiring President, Revd. Sunday Folayan, for the matured and professional way he steered the ship of the Association, as well as for his exemplary achievements, during his tenure in office.
