Nigerian Start-up, Chekkit Nominated for Josef Umdasch Research Prize

Health tech Start-up, Chekkit has been nominated for the 2020 edition of the Josef Umdasch Research Prize.

Not less than 170 registrations was received from 53 countries across the world.

5 solutions were selected around the world and Chekkit is the only African idea nominated after evaluation by a set of Jury.

Chekkit offers tracking of products with QR codes, RFID and blockchain to avoid counterfeiting while also supporting customer experience and real-time tracking.

The other nominees for the prize include;

Evocco (Ireland), Fixture Farmer (Germany), Novalia and Ordito (Austria).

These four nominees from Europe alongside Chekkit would pitch their detailed ideas at the WAS Global Congress in Vienna, Australia on Wednesday, March 11, 2020.

According to the programme, the winner from the pitch event will realise his/her idea with Umdasch The Store Makers.

The best idea also stands to be rewarded with EUR5,000 so that they can further develop.

Earlier Umdasch had called for submission of ideas from startups, students, Innovators, and forward thinkers to develop “Responsible Consumption Through Digitalisation”. The application closed on Sunday, November 20, 2019.

Recently Chekkit was inducted into the Eighth Merck Accelerator.

About Josef Umdasch Research Prize

Since 1990 the Umdasch Group has been supporting outstanding achievements in research and development through the Josef Umdasch Research Prize.

The award is named for Josef Umdasch, the father of the company’s present owners Hilde Umdasch and Alfred Umdasch, who initiated the prize.

Today the prize forms an important part of the Umdasch Group Foundation, an initiative of the Umdasch Group.

Its aim is to encourage the personal development of young people and to support initiatives that focus on the topics of education and knowledge transfer worldwide.
