MoDiTECH 2019: 4IR is the next stage of digitisation for Africa

It was a memorable gathering of digital enthusiasts from the government, private sectors, stakeholders and the media at the maiden edition of the Mobile and Disruptive Technology forum 2019.

Tagged the “The power of Digital services” the event saw an aggressive discussion on the various ways in which digital innovation has transformed the world, making it through different technological phases.

Dr. Tunde Coker, MD, Rack Centre, delivered the opening remarks. He commenced with the timeline of the Industrial Revolution phases and how it has seen changes in terms of digital transformation.

He also mentioned a brief history of the internet and interconnectivity and how it has brought progress to the way business and other important economic activities are done in Africa.

Coker stressed the importance of digitisation on the African continent, “What it means for us in Africa is to leverage the lots of benefits we can get. Benefits in terms of demographic advantage”

Some of his other key points include;

  • The fourth industrial revolution is the next stage of digitisation with Africa has a focus
  • Survival in the present economic structure is dependent on innovation
  • The journey of digitisation is now a way of life
  • The demand for data has exponentially increased

Delivering the keynote address, Mr. Austin Okere, Founder, Ausso Leadership Academy discussed the “Social and global impact; Engaging for growth”

He based his discussion on trends in the global markets, smartphones and digital economy.

Other notable speakers at the event were Mr. Tunde Ogungbade, MD/CEO, Global Accelerex who discussed the topic “Impact of Digital Solutions on Financial services” and also Dr. Peter Adewale, Co-Founder/COO, Digital Encode who discussed “Securing Your Mobile Devices against Cyber Attacks.”

Panel session also took place and the focus of discussion was centered around the digital transformation narrative and how it can bring about a change in the Nigerian economy.
