The Association of Telecommunications Companies of Nigeria (ATCON) has commended the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) for unveiling the Commission’s Strategic Management Plan (SMP) 2020-2024.
In a statement signed by Dr. Henry Nkemadu, Director, Public Affairs at the NCC on Sunday, June 21, 2020, the SMP will leverage the new National Broadband Plan (NBP) 2020-2025 and the National Digital Economy Policy and Strategy (NDEPS)
According to the statement, the Strategic Management Plan covers the mode of operations and acts as the manual for NCC in achieving the agenda on digital economy of the Federal Government for the next five years.
In a goodwill message by ATCON, signed by its President, Olusola Teniola, said the body expressed its joy that NCC under the Ministry of Communications and Digital Economy called for the convergence of stakeholders in the Nigerian ICT and telecoms sector to unveil its five-year plan.
“There is an adage which says that failure to plan is equivalent to plan to fail. With this planning which is expected to take its root from the National Digital Economy Policy and Strategy (NDEPS) and the new National Broadband Plan (NBP) 2020 – 2025, it is expected to be more successful than the previous ones.”
“This is because ATCON will collaborate with the Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, NCC, NITDA, NigCoMSAT, Galaxy Backbone, USPF, and DBI to work the plan out with all other stakeholders especially our members through the initiation of programmes in order to realize it set goals for the industry,” ATCON disclosed in the goodwill message.
According to ATCON, the SMP is taking into consideration the post-COVID-19 pandemic with respect to regulations of the Nigerian telecoms industry.
ATCON has pledged to work with the Commission to fast track the SMP for the benefit of Nigerians.
According to the Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Dr. Isa Pantami, the launch of the SMP has demonstrated the NCC’s seriousness in improving its performance matrix and strengthen its efforts to facilitate the implementation of the National Digital Economy Policy and Strategy (NDEPS) and the National Broadband Plan (NBP) 2020 – 2025 of the Federal Government.
