A Quick analysis of Virtual Reality prospects in Education

Virtual Reality - cfamedia

Virtual Reality (VR) is no longer a Sci-fi concept as seen in long previous years.

Currently, virtual reality is playing a huge role in many industries from Real Estate to Medicine to Interior decorations to Art Exhibitions and so on.

And now, Virtual Reality is reshaping the world of education – educators and students – and has an amazing impact on them.

In education, Virtual Reality – popularly VR – to enhance student learning and engagement.

Making teaching not just easy for educators but also making learning fun for students and increasing their engagement and optimistic attitude towards knowledge.

Here are some of the ways Virtual Reality helps improve education, the life of students and educators;

It helps give students a sense of places they have read about. The best way to engage students is to make them experience what they have read and this method also aids knowledge retention.

VR is the best way for students to experience this, so they are not just limited to descriptions in books, illustrations, with this, they can learn a subject by living it.

It is well-known that the fastest way to learn is to learn by doing. However, in modern education, we still maintain the old ways of learning by only making use of little practice or experience.

Therefore, students are rather focused on reading and following instructions rather than using them in practice.

VR is an opportunity for students to learn by doing rather than simply reading.

It helps students develop and discover their creativity. It is not just for content consumption and experience but also for content creation by giving students powerful tools to boost their creativity.

Helps in building the confidence of students to face the crowd during public speaking. Overcoming the fear of the public and crowd by making them experience it through the fabricated reality.

It helps bridge the gap between educators and students, with digital representations of themselves in the same virtual room – they can teleport into the VR world and educators help guide the students through their experience.

The platform helps to eliminate language barriers. Helps students achieve fluency in foreign languages through visualizations in any language.

Good VR learning experiences should have these properties;

  • The feeling should be immersive – the users should be in for an amazing experience. Make the things and experiences come alive.
  • It should be easy to use and eliminate special skills requirement
  • The impact should be measurable for educators to measure success and failure.
  • It should be meaningful – it should have a good story for the creation.
  • It should be adaptable – allow students to explore at their own pace.
