The Nigerian Stock Exchange (NSE) has announced its hackathon inaugural edition (X-Kathon) designed to improve the country’s capital market through its idea innovation contest.
The inaugural edition is themed, “Millennial Participation in The Capital Market”, which is aimed at encouraging investors’ participation in the Nigerian capital market.
The hackathon challenge is opened to all players in the tech ecosystem (individuals, teams and ventures) with the capacity to cause a positive explosion in the growth potential of Nigeria’s capital market.
For the build-up towards the grand finale holding on Thursday, October 24, 2019, entries into the hackathon will pass thorough scrutiny which will see the top 10 entries get an invitation to the hackathon’s boot camp.
The winner of this inaugural edition will take home a sum of ₦5 million. While ₦3 million and ₦2 million for the first and second runner ups respectively.
Mr. John Nsikak, Head Enterprise Innovation, Nigerian Stock Exchange on this inaugural hackathon said,
“Technology remains an essential enabler for growth in the Nigerian capital market. While the banking sector has witnessed an increased level of innovation and disruption, leading to the creation of more value for customers, the capital market is yet to experience the same wave of change.
At the NSE, we intend to change this narrative by leveraging X-Kathon as one of the platforms to crowdsource ideas and solutions that will catalyze innovation and startups’ participation in our market.”
Requirements for participation
To participate in the hackathon, the participant must have at least one of the following;
- An idea or solution
- A prototype or solution in development
- A fully built solution
Eligibility for participation
Requirements for participation include;
- Individual must be at least 18 years’ old and legally able to enter into a contract and owns an idea or a solution
- A team must be co-owners or co-sponsors of an idea or a solution.
- Must reside in Nigeria and possess a valid bank account
How to apply
Individuals, teams or ventures having creative ideas for software, tech solutions and hacks in addressing “low participation of millennials in the capital market” should apply on this portal.
The deadline for this application is Friday, October 4, 2019.
